PRAYER GUIDE for Christians & Jews

Prayer is our most powerful tool and we must use it daily.

Israel Always emphasizes prayer. More than five years ago, Earl Cox began praying for Israel and the Jewish people near the Holocaust Memorial in Marion Square in his hometown of Charleston, SC. Rain or shine, hot or cold, a small group of hardy believers prays at Marion Square every Thursday morning from 9 AM until Noon. This group formed the foundation of Cox's silent prayer vigil at the Western Wall throughout 2005 where Christians prayed for 8 hours each day for 365 consecutive days.
This year (2008) Earl Cox launched another 8 hour a day prayer vigil at the Western Wall for 30 consecutive days which began on October 14th concluding on November 14th.

Israel Always prayer leaders Mary Ann Heath and Jane Howerth facilitate the prayers each Thursday morning. We encourage Christians to form Israel prayer groups in your churches. We invite you to refer to the Prayer Guide below. Developed by Israel Always, Christians used the guide during the year-long silent prayer vigil at the Western Wall inaugurated by Earl Cox throughout 2005.

Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. They go from strength to strength until each appears before G-d in Zion.

Psalms 84:5,7

Under G-d’s covering, guide your thoughts inward and upward. Remember, when praying at the Kotel, Christians are silent. God knows our hearts and minds as we commune with Him in the inner treasures of His spirit.

Confession

“Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed against Me and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Ezekiel 18:31

Confess your sins, known & unknown, in thought, word, and deed. Ask G-d to forgive you, cleanse you, and prepare you as a vessel for prayer and listening to His voice. Extend forgiveness where needed to others and to yourself.

Adoration

“Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name.”

Psalms 96:7-8

Spend time quietly worshipping G-d in your heart, thanking Him for His loving kindness, goodness, and mercy. Make a mental list of the blessings He has given you and the reasons He is worthy of your love and thankfulness. Allow worship songs to fill your mind and heart.

Listening

“And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide Himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it.” When you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”

Isaiah 30:20-21

G-d speaks to us in many ways-through friends, His word, circumstances, or directly to our hearts and minds. Prayer is a dialogue not a monologue. Make sure you leave plenty of time to listen to G-d. He will direct your prayers for Israel and the Jewish people. He may quicken scriptures to you. The Shepherd of our souls will speak and we will know His voice as sheep know the Shepherd.

Intercession

“…He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives

and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of our Lord’s favor

and the day of vengeance of our G-d, to comfort all who mourn and provide for those

who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated;

they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”

Isaiah 61:1-4

Moses interceded for the Jewish people, as well as Nehemiah, Queen Esther and many others. You are joining a line of history as you pray scriptures from the heart of G-d for His people, the Apple of His eye.

A sampling of scriptures to pray for Israel

When praying for the nation of Israel and the Jewish people we suggest that you include prayers for various sectors of Israeli society such as family, synagogues, education, arts, entertainment, spiritual nourishment, immigration, poverty, media, government, the economy, defense, and security.

Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the Lord said to Abram, get out of your country and from your kindred and from your father’s house, to a Land that I will show you: And I will make of you a great nation and I will bless you and make your name great and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those that bless you and curse those who curse you. In you shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”

Exodus 34:27 “And the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words; in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”

Joshua 21:43 “Thus the Lord gave to Israel all the Land which He swore to give to their fathers; and having taken possession of it, they settled there.”

1 Kings 4:20 “Judah and Israel were as many as the sand by the sea; they ate and drank and were happy. Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt.”

2 Chronicles 6:25 “…and forgive the sin of Your people Israel and bring them again to the Land which You gave to them and their fathers.”

Psalms 14:7 “O that deliverance for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob shall rejoice, Israel shall be glad.”

Psalms 122:6 “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls and security within your towers.”

Isaiah 41:17 “…I the God of Israel will not forsake them.”

Jeremiah 51:5 “For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the Lord of Hosts.”

Amos 9:15 “And I will plant them upon their Land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their Land which I have given them, says the Lord your God."
